Workplace Manipulation takes many forms, so we will look at some examples from different people`s point of view.
Using Manipulation to Climb the Corporate Ladder
Most often, workplace manipulation is about building one`s own prestige within the Environment for the sake of pursuing self-centered goals. But there are lots of different naunced forms of manipulation that take place in the office and other workplace environments, which are not necessarily consciously undertaken.
A lot of the time, it boils down to people`s sense of importance when it comes to how others view them and what their positions are within the company. Let illustrate something like this that might be going on inside the boardroom meeting of higherups within a company
We`ll say that this company is pretty sizeable and competitive within its Industry, with lots of people working on the upper management side as the company expands and works to manage its Locations. Each Individual here holds some level of power over certain areas and branches of the company, but there is room for people to move up as the business continues to do well and positions open up in order to manage more and more property.
You can bet that this upward mobility currently present within the company is one of the primary thoughts on these people`s minds as they interact with their bosses and conceive ideas for growth in an effort to impress those who are in charge and those who make company wide decisions.
This is an area where politics may come into play and where manipulation Tactics related to Politics are working from both sides. A Top Executive might push himself forward by offering ideas and refuting the ideas of others in order to make himself look like the smartest one in the room. Such Actions might Prompt other people in the room to form alliances against him in order to tear him down or to make room for themselves.
Using Manipulation to Defend One`s Position
On the flip side, those in the top positions will feel a need and desire to hold onto power through Demonstrations of Dominance and Domineering Tactics even when they are not entirely applicable or necessary in order to prove the point of his/her seniority and position.
Now, Of Course, this doesn`t apply to every person in a place of power within a company, but there is certainly an argument to be made that those instincts which prompt people to exert themselves in order to maintain control of a population would be Triggered in a Position of Power.
At these positions, the stakes become higher and blame is often placed on those at the Top of a Company. Therefore, Actions of Manipulation might stem from Fear, which is a very strong motivator toward actions and decisions that may not be entirely Ethical but rather a desperate attempt to hang on to Power and Influence and make sure no one crosses him/her Decisions.
People who make it to the Top of Prestigious Company often let this kind of Position and Power go to their Heads in different ways, Manifesting as a Domineering presence that must be obeyed and bowed to for fear of being cut out of the Game Entirely.
This kind of Dominating Presence is often fueled by a growing Desire linked with Greed and Power-Hungry Cravings, which only Manifest once the Individual has had a taste of the Power that seems to win them such Prizes. There is a whole area of Research surrounding the Phenomenon and Effects of Power on the Individual Psyche, but Corruption is a common Consequence.
We`ve seen this unfold all over the news in America where People at the Highest Echelons of Power seem to hit a Point somewhere along the line where they no longer make Business Decisions that involve the Interests of the People Responsible for holding the Company up, but which seem solely concerned with its industry.
This is, after all, one of the most important aspects of working and managing a company that is ingrained in employees from the moment they start working. The capitalist Economy is all about Growth and Economic Dominance.
The Leaders consider themselves ultimately responsible for this aspect of the business and often make Decisions that minimize the Importance of those at the bottom while doing whatever it takes to increase the Profits coming in. The mode of Control for Individuals in these Positions is often to Practice Manipulation Techniques.
