USING MANIPULATION TO GAIN POWERE OVER COLLEAGUES
Good Day Readers, Today we will be discussing another Manipulation Tactic that People often see in the workplace is that which works to belittle and undermine others as a means to make themselves feel better or superior in their positions. The Irony is that, often, people who enact this kind of insidious Manipulation in the Workplace do not hold positions of power above those the demean.
This can actually be one of the primary drivers for someone to behave this way against other People. Especially men who feel that they are not in the position that is commensurate with what they feel they deserve will be susceptible to the Temptation to act out their Frustration and take it out on others with whom they Interact on a Daily Basis.
This is simply convenient for them because of the ease of access and their availability to become easy prey. The Manipulation in this context will quickly Learn who in their environment would make good targets. In other words, these are people who are unlikely to fight back or defend themselves.
Here, we return to the concepts we`ve discussed in previous chapters about how the manipulator will choose his prey. Weill he go after the diminutive and weak-willed, self-conscious young woman who has just started at the company or the confident woman who doesn`t take crap from anyone? The Answer should be obvious. Therefor, it is essential that those in the environment look out for one another when it comes to defending against Manipulation in the Workplace.
Unfortunately, People do not always take it upon themselves to look out for one another in an increasingly Individualistic Society that operates on an everyone-for-himself basis. In addition, the Manipulator may be smart enough to know that he must operate in a way that is not obvious to the other coworkers around him. He will pinpoint and target a single Individual and take opportunities when he can, Perhaps even convincing the Target to take on extra workloads.
The effect here would be that the Manipulator feels a sense of power that is false but nevertheless comforting. The manipulative undermining the already low-confidence level of the target. The Target will start to feel as if she has no choice as she is persistently told that she needs noticed.
Alternatively, the Manipulator might employ Tactics that focus on Engaging the Target`s Good-Natured Feelings and Tendencies. These would include feeling sorry for him and like she should help him, that he is genuinely in need of support and assistance, and that she should feel guilty for not wanting to help him.
These feelings can be evoked through direct confrontation with the manipulator as he drops subtle cues to trigger these emotions. The effect may not take place right away, but most of the most Malicious Dark Psychology Tactics begin with the planting of simple, unnoticed seeds of doubt and emotional manipulation, which grow over time.
In this way, workplace manipulation can work just as effectively as manipulation situations at home because a person often spends almost as much time at the office working as they do at home relaxing. The Psychic Effects of workplace Manipulation can be just as harmful and can make the target feel trapped.
Not everyone feels they have the capability to just pick up and leave a job, especially if they have become invested in their careers. People put up with unpleasant interactions at work every day for the sake of responsibility for the wellbeing of their families. Unhappiness and Dissatisfaction in the workplace can lead to others viewing you as a way to alleviate their own stress through covert abuse and emotional manipulation.
On the flip side, those who feel as if they are under a large amount of stress may become the perpetrators of such workplace abuse as a way to alleviate their stress and not even realize they are turning into this kind of person. We all do what we can, sometimes unconsciously, to alleviate stress from conscious thought – just like when something happens, and we get suddenly very frustrated and angry.
We seem unable to control the feelings that arise and, if we are not careful, may from habits of reaction in these situations which are harmful, either to ourselves or those around us. It is Important that people do not underestimate the Psychological Effects of their stress and their reactions to that stress on other people, most often on the people they love the most.
Sometimes, all it takes is for someone to point out to the abuser that his behavior is out of line. He may not realize the extent to which he has let his automatic reactions to stress get out of hand. If this tactic does not work, then it may be necessary to notify a Manager or Supervisor in order to have the behavior addressed. If you find yourself the Target of Workplace Manipulation and Abuse and cannot successfully address it yourself, then you need to seek out help and support in order to make the behavior stop.
Perhaps you can move departments or surround yourself with a different team. Your Boss or Supervisor should take this Kind of thing seriously and take steps to alleviate the effects of such abuse and put a stop to the abuse itself.
Do not underestimate the Long-Term Effects of just taking it upon yourself to put up with it and deal with it. A lot of people start out thinking they are too strong to be affected by Long-Term Abuse, but the Human Psyche only has so much it can put up with before it starts to give in. Enlist the Help of those you Trust To Help You Navigate the Situation.
